The creeping moderation of both political parties is, more and more, the subtext of a lot of political reporting these days as it becomes clear that Progressive Libertarians, young business guys in politics, aren’t just a Democratic or a Silicon Valley phenomenon.

Sunday’s New York Times had a brief profile of New Hampshire (no personal income tax) Gov. Craig Benson. Benson holds meetings standing up so people don’t get comfortable, he talks about entrepreneurial attitudes toward politics, he’s determined not to raise taxes, he thinks government should be more efficient. And oh, yeah, he’s 49 and rich.

Sound familiar? It should. Gov. Terminator, Silicon Valley’s favorite politicians says pretty much the same stuff. So does California Controller, Silicon Valley’s own Steve Westly and San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom.
